A shamoji is a flat rice paddle or spatula used to stir and to serve rice, and to mix vinegar into the rice for making sushi.

This shamoji is made from plastic and has a bobbled non-stick head. These rice paddles are also designed so as not to cut rice grains when stirring sushi rice.

Rice paddles are also used to spread rice onto nori seaweed sheets, and to serve rice into individual bowls.
